The Princess Bride
Okay, big call... the BEST movie EVER!!!
Everything came together successfully. The story was rich and faultless. All the cast were memorable and brilliant. The dialogue was ridiculously opulent. There was humour. There was beauty. There was a feeling at the end of complete satisfaction. Even the music was perfect. And it had the THE best sword fight of all time! It was one of those films where everything and everyone came together in perfect synergy.
I've actually used this film in the classroom with older kids for a unit on narratives. I've got a whole powerpoint that introduces the characters and events to 'watch out for'. I tell the kids it has the best sword fight ever and they challenge me with all the films they've seen with epic battles - but after we've watched the film, I'm always asked if we can watch the sword fight again. It's just such perfect choreography. I win that argument!
It does have a swear word in it, but I'm so familiar with the film that I can hit the mute button at exactly the right time. The kids laugh at me and say 'we know what it says, Miss Marg' to which my reply is: 'I don't care - I do care that you didn't hear it in my classroom'.
