Maths
Not a lot of maths stuff on the site as I used to share a class with another teacher (and great friend) Katrina and Maths was her thing and Literacy was mine!! Now I'm upstairs with the juniors again (2013), I'm starting to do more maths so a few bits and pieces may get added
2017 update : I take all the above back - now doing a truck load of Maths!!!!

Great site for videos with really explicit teaching of maths content. I LOVE using these with my class 'cause I'm lacking in confidence in teaching maths and these videos are so sequential and clear (and really professionally done). I tell my kids I'm handing over to the expert 'cause 'Rob can explain it way better than I can'. Sometimes we'll watch a video a few times and do lots of stopping and talking and practising in between.

Preps Made a City - I took the preps for a morning while the new preps were being inducted into the school and the old preps had to vacate their room. The kids had been doing location and fractions in the past weeks so we combined the skills of both and made a city. Huge fun. The backing sheet is a $2 plastic tablecloth! It's displayed at the back entrance of the school and it's been great to see kids showing their parents what we did.

Saw a clock set up similar to this on Pinterest about a year ago - finally got around to doing a version for our classroom.

Our school recently got a heap of maths equipment from one of those supermarket token schemes. So we needed effective storage for the new stuff and the old. Our recent building programme has luckily given us some new cupboards!
We took photos of everything and made a catalogue so teachers knew what resources we had as they plan, to give the kids the most enriching experiences in maths. |
